By aligning real estate investment with community investment, we create the conditions for prosperity that compounds across generations.

We invest using three forms of capital in and for Black Portland:

  1. Private Capital

Real asset investment and financial intermediation.

  2. Community Capital

Grantmaking, leadership development, and community alignment.

  3. Political Capital

Public sector engagement and alignment, policy influence, and coalition building.

The coordinated investment creates stronger pathways to participation, ownership, and economic opportunity.

Our work is guided by five aligned strategies:

  1. Public + Private Partner Alignment

We align policy, public capital, and public-private partnership to advance district-level planning and development.

  2. Real Estate Acquisition + Development

We invest in district-level real estate ownership to support control, stabilized permanence, and long-term impact.

  3. District Planning, Programming + Activation

We activate assets through intentional programming, intergenerational learning opportunities, and real estate development that bring the district to life.

  4. Financial Intermediation

We develop financial mechanisms that generate revenue, scale investment, and grow Black wealth.

  5. Grantmaking + Organizational Support

We support cultural programming, leadership development and grantee collaboration to strengthen outcomes.

This is how 1803 turns investment into infrastructure for generational prosperity.
